Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The Government of Mali announced that it filed a lawsuit against Algeria with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on September 4th, 2025.

During a press conference held on September 13th, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs refuted this claim.

In light of this false statement, the Malian authorities decided to file the lawsuit on September 16th, as announced today by the ICJ in a press release.

Given this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs observes a flagrant contradiction in Mali's action: the Malian regime, which has disregarded the legitimacy and constitutional order of its own country, is now concerned with the very law that it ignores nationally, falsely claiming adherence to it internationally.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that this same regime has led Mali to a political, economic, and security catastrophe, and is the same regime that incites moral bankruptcy. Mali's decision to resort to the International Court of Justice clearly stems from an attempt to use this prestigious UN judicial body in a desperate bid to find a scapegoat to exempt itself from all responsibility for the tragedy it is inflicting on the brother country, Mali.

This move is so blatant that it is difficult to believe, and Algeria will not accept it and condemns its shameful nature. Algeria holds a very high esteem of International law and deeply respects the International Court of Justice. It has a duty not to allow this court to be the object of a deception, however trivial it could be.

Algeria will notify the International Court of Justice, in due course, of its rejection of these manipulative measures.
