Biometric documents
1- The biometric passport
All travelers must have a biometric passport, now valid for ten (10) years, and five (5) years for minors.
The presence of children under twelve years old is not mandatory, at the condition that the photos provided in their files are compliant. However, the Consular service could request their presence if verification is needed.
Beyond 12 years of age, minor children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The mother may apply for passports for her minor children in the following cases:
- If the father has passed away (provide an extract of the death certificate or present the family book with the marginal mention "deceased");
- If the father is not of Algerian nationality (provide a copy of his identity document proving his nationality);
- If she is divorced and is granted custody of the child (provide a copy of the divorce decree);
- If the father is absent (provide a Legal Representative authorization duly signed and legalized by a competent Algerian authority).
The first application or renewal of a biometric passport includes the following documents:
- The consular registration card (valid, less than 05 years) Original + copy;
- The special form duly completed, dated, and signed by the applicant or legal guardian for minors,
- Birth certificate n° 12s (original + copy)
- The residence permit or valid Chilean identity card for all those who have dual nationality (Algerian and Chilean).
- Two (02) recent identity photos (digital) that meet ICAO standards. The photo that will appear on the passport will be the one taken at the biometric station of the consular service.
- Payment of Chancellery fees (74,000 Chilean Pesos or 35,000 Chilean Pesos for minors under 19 and students).
- Photocopy of the old passport.
Observations:
- Married or divorced women whose mention does not appear on their birth certificates n° 12s must present an extract of a marriage certificate or an extract of a divorce decree duly transcribed by the Algerian civil status services.
- The applicant's blood type must be entered in the corresponding section on the form.
- From now on, biometric passports are individual, as a result, minor children will no longer be able to be carried on their parents' passports.
Procedure for withdrawing the biometric passport
Biometric passports are issued in Algeria. Interested parties can consult the website of the Ministry of the Interior to see if they are available before requesting their withdrawal.
For children who have not reached the age of 12 at the time of submission of their file, their presence is not required to collect the passport.
The biometric passport can be collected without an appointment, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Embassy, upon presentation of:
- The "12S" birth certificate (original) for people to whom it was returned when the file was submitted.
- Deposit receipt.
- The previous passport (whether valid or expired).
IMPORTANT
When withdrawing the biometric passport, the applicant must return the previous expired or damaged passport. Otherwise, the interested person must present a declaration of loss with the payment of a 100,000 Chilean Peso tax.
2. The Electronic Biometric National Identity Document (CNIBE)
Nationals registered at an overseas post and holders of a biometric passport can now apply for the biometric national identity document. This is done only online, at no additional cost.

Procedure for withdrawing the Electronic Biometric National Identity Document (CNIBE):
The withdrawal of the Electronic Biometric National Identity Document (CNIBE) occurs without an appointment, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Embassy upon the return of your old card.
In case of loss or theft of the latter, a declaration of loss or theft made at the post, upon presentation of the proof issued by the competent authorities of the place of loss or theft.
