Celebration of the National Day of the Memory

The Embassy of Algeria in Santiago commemorated the National Day of the Memory, marking the 81st anniversary of the massacres of May 8th, 1945, in a ceremony which included a minute of silence and the reading of the Fatiha in memory of the souls of our honorable martyrs.

On this occasion, we recall a date that embodies the spirit of steadfastness and defiance, and that immortalizes the sacrifices of the Algerian people. On this day, the nation rose up against French colonial rule in a legitimate and peaceful demand for freedom and sovereignty; a yearning that was tragically suppressed with atrocious violence, taking the lives of thousands of martyrs, among the finest sons and daughters of Algeria.
